The awards of the International critics and Revelation Cartier of the Deauville 37th American Film Festival went to the English director Tony Kaye ( American History X ), who has the exclusive rights with Filmmaster from this year, for his lates film, Detachment.
The film, presented in USA at Tribeca Film Festival (NY) and welcomed with a public long standing ovation, is an involving and touching movie focused on the American schooling system, with interpreters such as Adrien Brody, Lucy Liu and James Caan and it has been selected by an international jury among the 14 films in competition.
The partnership between Filmmaster and Tony Kaye started at the beginning of 2011 and has given amazing results such as the new Italian campaign realized for Nastro Azzurro which encourages people to say yes to world and life.
The artistic direction of Tony Kaye is represented by the commercials production company both in Italy and Spain, where this year Filmmaster has opened a new branch. The film has been previewed in Italy by Filmmaster at the beginning of June .
Helmer Jeff Nichols’ “Take Shelter” and Matthew Gordon’s “The Dynamiter” are the other two films awarded at Deauville Film Festival.
Detachment
The film deals with the American schooling system and tells the story of Henry Barthes (Adrien Brody), a gifted yet distant teacher who avoids emotional connections with students by never staying anywhere for too long. The perfect job for a person who tries to hide from life and tries hard to become invisible. One day he arrives in a new school and all his certainties start falling apart. At this point he meets three women who will change his vision of life: a student, a colleague and a runaway teenager. All these women strive for life, searching for beauty in a world full of imperfection and without love.
