Dear John (1964): Sweden Best Foreign Language Film Nominee

Nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 1965, Dear John is a sentimental romantic melodrama about a sea captain (Jarl Kulle) whose wife had left him years ago.

One weekend, he meets and falls for Anita (Christina Schollin), an unwed mother of Helent (Helene Nilsson), who’s six year old.

The tale unfolds in flashbacks, in which John and Anita share their life stories with each other. John hopes that the new relationship will grow into something meaningful and steady, but Anita is more skeptical.

The film is written and directed by Lars-Magnus Lindgren.
