The crime drama Dark Places has launched on DirecTV seven weeks ahead of its theatrical release, August 7, by A24.
DirecTV announced Thursday that customers can watch “Dark Places” on DirecTV Cinema through August 6.
A24 and DirecTV announced in November that they had jointly acquired all U.S rights to “Dark Places,” based on the novel by “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn.
Chloe Grace Moretz, Nicholas Hoult, Christina Hendricks, Tye Sheridan and Corey Stoll also star.
In the film, directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner from his adaptation, Theron plays the sole survivor of a family massacre who is forced to confront the events of that day by a secret society obsessed with solving crimes.
“Dark Places” is presented by Exclusive Media, and produced by Denver & Delilah Films, Hugo Productions, and Mandalay Pictures.
“Dark Places” is one of the highest-profile titles to emerge from the 2-year-old A24-DirecTV partnership to release films exclusively on the satellite TV provider before they hit theaters. Other titles have included Aubrey Plaza starrer “Life After Beth’; Atom Egoyan’s “Captive,” starring Ryan Reynolds; and Julius Avery’s directorial debut “Son of a Gun,” starring Ewan McGregor and Brenton Thwaites.
