After years of stops and starts, The Crow reboot is finally flying and now has the first trailer to prove it.

Bill Skarsgard leads the film, which centers on a man who is murdered, alongside his fiancée but is granted supernatural powers to seek revenge.

The Crow began life as a comic book, with James O’Barr debuting the character in 1989.

It grew to new levels of popularity with the cult hit film, which starred Brandon Lee. Sadly, Lee was tragically killed in an on-set accident during filming.

The original movie, released by Miramax, was hugely popular at the box-office (see below).

Multiple sequels followed, including The Crow: City of Angels (1996), The Crow: Salvation (2000) and The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005).

The current reboot took nearly 20 years to get off the ground, with multiple stars and filmmakers coming and going. Blade Stephen Norrington took a stab at one point, while F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) and star Luke Evans tried to break the curse at another point. Corin Hardy (The Nun), Jason Momoa and Sony were tied in the late 2010s, but Momoa departed in 2018.

The new film hails from Rupert Sanders and also stars FKA Twigs, Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila and Jordan Bolger. The script is from Zach Baylin and Will Schneider. Victor Hadida, Molly Hassell, John Jencks, the late Samuel Hadida and the late Edward R. Pressman produced.

Lionsgate acquired the project last year.

“The original film left an indelible mark on our culture that lives on,” said the producers in a joint statement at the time. “We are thrilled to bring a new adaptation for today’s audiences that respects this legacy.  Rupert has masterfully brought new dimensions to create a contemporary universe for this timeless saga of undying love, and we can’t wait to share this vision with film audiences.”

The Crow is set to hit theaters on June 7.
