Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Stewart to Star in ‘Crimes of the Future’ From David Cronenberg

Lea Seydoux will also star in the movie that has the same name of a 1970 Cronenberg-directed movie.
David Cronenberg has set his next directorial project based on his first original screenplay since 1999’s eXistenZ.The Fly filmmaker will reteam with his A History of Violence star Viggo Mortensen on Crimes of the Future, which will also star Kristen Stewart and Léa Seydoux.

“Saul Tenser is a beloved performance artist who has embraced Accelerated Evolution Syndrome, sprouting new and unexpected organs in his body. Along with his partner Caprice, Tenser has turned the removal of these organs into a spectacle for his loyal followers to marvel at in real-time theatre. But with both the government and a strange subculture taking note, Tenser is forced to consider what would be his most shocking performance of all.”

“I have unfinished business with the future,” said Cronenberg, who directed a film with the same name in 1970.

Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Don McKellar and Lihi Kornowski also star. Robert Lantos will produce via Serendipity Point Films.

Crimes of the Future is due to begin filming in Greece in August.

Neon will release the film in the U.S. Mile End will distribute in Canada, and Rocket Science is handling International Sales.
