Jonathan Lynn directed and co-wrote (with John Landis) Clue, a playful mystery comedy, based on Anthony Pratt’s board game of the same name.
The picture’s greatest virtue is its colorful ensemble, headed by Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, and Lesley Ann Warren.
The theatrical release of the film, which was produced by Debra Hill, included three alternate endings–different movie theaters received randomly one of the three finales.
In the film’s home video release, all three endings were included.
Burdened by mixed-to negative critical reviews, Clue was a commercial flop, earning only $14.6 million in the U.S. against a budget of $15 million.
Release date: December 13, 1985
