Chicken for Linda
This hand-painted indie from the artistic duo of Chiara Malta and Sébastien Laudenbach was not popular at the box-office, but it won big awards, such as the Cristal at Annecy Fest, and César (French Oscar) for best animation.
The vibrant-looking animation centers on an exasperated single mom struggling to raise 8-year-old Linda by herself, and works as a roundabout lesson in dealing with grief.
Each character is assigned a specific color, making it easy to follow them through one unbearably hectic day.
The filmmakers recorded the performances in real-world apartments, stairwells, and parks before adding songs by composer Clément Ducol (now known for his “Emilia Pérez” score).
