Hollywood may have a lighter presence due to a combination of factors – including last year’s actors and writers strikes, which created production delays, as well as a tough economy.
But this year’s festival will see no shortage of glamor and stars on the red carpet.

Knobloch said the festival will now expand beyond the Palais des Festivals and into the Palm Beach, a venue located on the opposite side of the Croisette. The Palm Beach is currently being remodeled.

The Cannes Film Market has already lured more than 14,000 accredited professionals from 120 countries.

In Fremaux’s interview ahead of the presser, the festival head said Cannes had 20% rise in accreditation requests.
More than 2,000 Films Submitted

“We’re going to surpass the 2,000 films submitted for the selection.

The interest for the festival is clear, and no matter what, it’s the films that create the atmosphere each year,” he said.

Last year was a milestone edition for the festival, which world premiered two best picture nominees: Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” and Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest.”

The Cannes Film Festival will kick off with the world premiere of Quentin Dupieux’s surreal comedy “Second Act” starring Lea Seydoux.

The 77th edition runs May 15-25.
