Nick Antosca and Lenore Zion created Brand New Cherry Flavor, a highly original, if deeply grotesque horror series, based on the novel of the same name by Todd Grimson.
Set in the 1990s, the limited series begins with young director Lisa Nova arriving in Hollywood after big producer Lou Burke (Eric Lange) shows interest in remaking her short horror as a feature. Burke quickly proves himself a sleaze in every sense, and Lisa’s anger at his betrayal drives her to urban witch Boro (Catherine Keener), who is happy to put a curse on him for a disgusting price.
The cast includes Rosa Salazar, Catherine Keener, Eric Lange, Manny Jacinto and Jeff Ward.
The series premiered on Netflix on August 14, 2021.
Premise
Lisa N. Nova (Rosa Salazar) arrives in Los Angeles, determined to make her first movie. However, trusting the wrong person, she gets stabbed in the back, and her dream project turns into nightmare, which has zombies, hit men, supernatural kittens, a mysterious tattoo artist who puts curses on people. In order to get out alive, Lisa must figure out secrets from her own past.

A delightfully deranged trip, anchored by incredible performance from Rosa Salazar.
The scene of Roy (Ward) and Lisa reinventing sex by using an all-new pseudo-vagina, which magically opens up on the side of her torso, is a disturbing if dazzling sight to behold; truly original and shocking.
The production companies involved were Eat the Cat and Universal Content Productions. Principal photography took place on location in Vancouver, Canada.
