‘Boogie Nights’ — “Sister Christian” by Night Ranger

Paul Thomas Anderson showed the influence of Scorsese in several sequences in Boogie Nights.
In the “coke deal gone bad” scene, a speedo-wearing Alfred Molina, freebased off his tits, sings along to Night Ranger’s kitschy power ballad.
But the top 40 mood is cut with rising menace–exploding firecrackers that chase away Dirk and his buddies. To trigger violent threat and chaotic escape, Anderson changes the tempo to Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl.”
