Body Double, yet another homage from director Brian DePalma to his hero, the late and great Hitchcock, borrows elements from both Vertigo and Rear Window.
End result is a trivial if minor picture with few artistic merits to cherish other than Melanie Griffith’s sexy performance.
Craig Wasson plays Jake Scully, a struggling actor who keeps losing jobs because of his claustrophobia. To make matters worse, his girlfriend has walked out on him, so he has no money and no place to sleep.
His friend offers him the use of his apartment for the evening, and would not you know it the flat comes ready with a huge window and telescope, begging to be used.
Jake begins to spy on his beautiful neighbor Gloria Revelle (Deborah Shelton) while she undresses, and later witnesses to her brutal murder.
Turning point occurs when he meets a porn starnamed Holy Body (Melanie Griffith), who has taken a job posing as the late Gloria. Will he fall for her? Will he reveal his true identity?
