Michael Apted directed Blink, a neo-noir thriller, written by Dana Stevens and starring Madeleine Stowe and Aidan Quinn. Laurie Metcalf also had a role in the film.
Chicago rock band The Drovers played a support role as themselves, contributing 3 songs to the soundtrack. Stowe’s character, Emma, is a fiddler in the group.
Emma Brody is a young musician who has been blind for 20 years. New surgery techniques restore her vision but initially cause “vision flashes.”
One night, awakened by noise in the apartment above, she “sees” a figure descending the stairs. She contacts the police, worried that her neighbor has been murdered, but she, (and the police) are unsure whether it was just her new vision deceiving her. The real killer then begins to stalk Emma,
Unfortunately, the writer fails to make him interesting, and thus the figure remains inconsequential and his motives remote.
The premise is clever for a thriller that ultimately does not deliver the expected goods.
Greeted with mixed reviews, the mildly engaging film was only moderately popular at the box-office.
