Babyteeth is a well acted Australian melodrama about a terminally ill woman, a drug-dealer boyfriend and her disapproving parents.

Psychiatrist Henry Finlay (Ben Mendelsohn) and his wife Anna (Essie Davis), once a music prodigy, enjoy their luxurious life in Sydney.

Things change when their daughter Milla (Eliza Scanlen), who’s 16, encounters first love with Moses (Toby Wallace),  a hot-wired junkie.

Since Milla has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, the Finlays have to make allowances.

First-time feature director Shannon Murphy and screenwriter Rita Kalnejais, who adapted her own play, almost avoid familiarity of the terminal illness melodrama.
