B.F.’s Daughter (1948): Robert Z. Leonard’s Romantic Melodrama Starring Barbara Stanwyck

Robert Z. Leonard directed this romantic melodrama, adapted from the novel by J. P. Marquand.

Barbara Stanwyck plays the daughter of a wealthy man (Charles Coburn), who manipulates the success of her husband (played by Van Hefflin).

The book was controversial for its treatment of the issues of  conflicts and adultery, but the film is a sanitized and fairly conventional love story.

The film was released in the UK as Polly Fulton, because “B.F.” was a euphemism for “bloody fool.”
