Three years after the second Thin Man entry, MGM made another popular segment, Another Thin Man.
This was the last and third chapter to be based on Dashiell Hammett’ story in a series that will continue for another decade or so.
William Powell and Myrna Loy reprise their roles as suave sleuths Nick and Nora Charles, now with the added of baby Nick Charles Jr., and, of course the reliable company of the beloved dog, Asta.
At the invitation of munitions manufacturer Colonel MacFay (C. Aubrey Smith), the couple spends a weekend at MacFay’s Long Island estate. The Colonel holds that his shady ex-business associate Phil Church (Sheldon Leonard) plans to do him harm, which comes true with a murder
Motherhood has slowed down Nora’s drinking—just a bit. Having promised to be more responsible father—that is, cut down on his drinking–Nick spends a lot of time sorting out the clues. He identifies the actual murderer, who is the least likely suspect.
Adding to the adventures is the Charleses’ effort to find a good baby-sitter, resulting in an onslaught of additional babies, courtesy of Nick’s Underworld cronies.
