Writer-director Richard Curtis adds a touch of time-travel to About Time, his romantic comedy, starring comic talent Bill Nighy, and Rachel McAdams, Lindsay Duncan, and emerging star Domhnall Gleeson.
The tale concerns a young man who tries to change his past in hopes of improving his future, with the ability to time travel.
Tim Lake (Domhnall Gleeson) grows up in Cornwall with his father James (Bill Nighy), mother Mary (Lindsay Duncan), absent-minded uncle Desmond (Richard Cordery), and free-spirited sister Katherine or “Kit Kat” (Lydia Wilson).
At the age of 21, Tim learns that the men of his family have the secret ability to travel back in time, reaching moments they have lived before. But in order to time travel, they must be in a dark space, clench their fists and visualize the memory.
While James discourages his son from using his gift to acquire money or fame, Tim decides he will use it to improve his love life.
Despite mixed critical reaction, the movie was a commercial success, grossing $87.1 million against a $12 million budget.
