A Quiet Place: John Krasinski’s Popular Franchise

John Krasinski, better known as actor, directed A Quiet Place, a post-apocalyptic horror film that went on to become a thematic universe and popular franchise.

The screenplay was written by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods from a story they conceived (while in college), with contributions by Krasinski after joining the project.

The Premise:

The plot revolves around a mother (Emily Blunt) and father (Krasinski) who struggle to survive and raise their children (Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe) in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by blind extraterrestrial creatures with acute sense of hearing.

A Quiet Place premiered at South by Southwest on March 9, 2018, and was released in the U.S. on April 6, 2018, by Paramount Pictures.

It grossed more than $340 million worldwide and received critical acclaim.

Critical Status

The film was chosen by the National Board of Review and American Film Institute as one of the top ten films of 2018.

It was nominated for several awards, including Best Sound Editing Oscar, Writers Guild of America for Best Original Screenplay, and Blunt won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by Female Actor in Supporting Role.

A sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, premiered in New York March 8, 2020 and was released in the U.S. on May 28, 2021, with Krasinski returning as director.

The main cast also returned, with the addition of Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou.

A second and final sequel, A Quiet Place Part III, is scheduled to be released in 2025, becoming the fourth film in the A Quiet Place universe.

The first film, A Quiet Place, became a surprise hit in 2018, turning John Krasinski into an A-list director, and unexpectedly earning $340.9 million globally.

The sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, grossed $297.3 million globally in 2021, a strong showing as the theatrical business was coming out of the pandemic.
