3 Body Problem: David Benioff and Dan Weiss’ New Sci-Fi (Follow Up to Game of Thrones)

Premiere Date, New Footage Revealed for Netflix Drama

The streamer dropped a new look at the sci-fi series from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss.

3 Body Problem, the new sci-fi drama from creators of Game of Throne will launch on Netflix on March 21, 2024.

The streamer also released a video with new footage from the series, which is adapted from Liu Cixin’s Hugo Award-winning trilogy.

There’s also more specific description of the show: “A young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time into the present day. When the laws of nature inexplicably unravel before their eyes, a close-knit group of brilliant scientists join forces with an unflinching detective to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.”

3 Body Problem is by Emmy-winning David Benioff and Dan Weiss along with Emmy-nominated True Blood writer-producer Alexander Woo.

Netflix also released some teaser art to promote the premiere date, which rather cleverly incorporates an element from the story that the novel’s fans will recognize:

The announcements were made as part of Netflix’s “Geeked Week” showcase.

The cast also includes Jovan Adepo (Watchmen), Rosalind Chao (Better Things), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver), Jess Hong (Inked), Marlo Kelly (Dare Me), Jonathan Pryce (The Crown), Eve Ridley (Peppa Pig), Ben Schnetzer (Y: The Last Man), Alex Sharp (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time), Sea Shimooka (Pink Skies Ahead), Zine Tseng (series debut), Saamer Usmani (Succession) and Benedict Wong (Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness).

The other executive producers are: Bernadette Caulfield (Thrones); Rian Johnson (Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi), Ram Bergman and Nena Rodrigue for T-Street; Lin Qi, the late former chairman of Yoozoo Group, and Zhao Jilong, CEO of the rights-holder, The Three-Body Universe; Plan B Entertainment — Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner’s company (Moonlight); and Rosamund Pike and Robie Uniacke for Primitive Streak.

Oscar-nominated director Derek Tsang (Better Days) will direct multiple episodes and serve as co-executive producer.
