Encounter: Michael Pearce’s Family Tale, Starring Oscar Nominee Riz Ahmed

Riz Ahmed’s ‘Encounter’ Kicks Off Telluride Fest’s 48th Edition

The Amazon title, co-written and directed by Michael Pearce, screened in Telluride.

The first film to screen at the fest was Michael Pearce‘s Encounter, starring Riz Ahmed, who was nominated for the best actor Oscar for Sound of Metal.

The 2021 Telluride Film Festival runs Sept. 2-6.
Pearce, who won the best debut by a British writer, director or producer BAFTA Award for 2018’s Beast, co-wrote the script with Joe Barton.
It is the tale of a largely absent father who is nevertheless idealized and revered by his young children.
The British actor, despite being just 38, was to receive a career tribute at this year’s fest, but was ultimately unable to make it.
Amazon, which released Sound of Metal, is behind Encounter, and will next take it to the Toronto Film Festival.
No further release plans have been disclosed yet.
