March 19, 2009–Coinciding with the 25th Anniversary of feature length motion picture, The Toxic Avenger, New York City’s New World Stages will be home to the musical version of the cult hit which spawned three sequels, a Saturday morning cartoon show, novel and countless themed merchandise.
With rave reviews from both fans and critics alike, the musical is now making its home at the famed off-Broadway venue after its highly successful 5-week engagement at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, New Jersey, last September.
Based on the popular film created by writer/director Lloyd Kaufman, The Toxic Avenger Musical features music and lyrics by David Bryan (keyboardist and founding member of Bon Jovi), book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change) and is directed by Tony Award winner John Rando (Urinetown).
In celebration of the opening of the highly-anticipated musical, Troma Entertainment will be re-launching all four installments of The Toxic Avenger films and The Toxic Crusaders Saturday morning cartoon show. Additionally, Lloyd Kaufman is currently working on The Toxic Avenger 5 featuring “Toxie’s troublesome teenage toxic twins.”
