Politics 2016: Hillary Clinton–We Just Put Biggest Crack in Glass Ceiling

Delegates were excited on Tuesday as Hillary Clinton made a surprise appearance via video remote at the Democratic National Convention, telling the crowd that “we just put the biggest crack in the glass ceiling yet.”

Her appearance on the big screens in the Wells Fargo Arena came after a performance by Alicia Keys.

After a video montage of a succession of male presidents, ending with Obama, a shatter was heard. That was when Clinton, in New York, appeared to a roar from the crowd.

She talked of the importance of her nomination to young women and girls.  “I may become the first woman president, but one of you is next,” she said.

The appearance capped an evening that featured a number of entertainment celebrities, including Lena Dunham, Meryl Streep, Elizabeth Banks and Debra Messing. It was a contrast to the Republican convention in Cleveland. where nominee Donald Trump largely relied on celebrity sports figures, business colleagues and actors such as Scott Baio and a smattering of reality TV personalities.
