Oscar Actors: Streep, Meryl–Oscar Winner Breaks Records as Most-Nominated Actor in History

The actress was nominated for her supporting role in Only Murders in the Building.

Oscar winner Meryl Streep has broken her own record as the most-nominated actor in history.

The actress was nominated for best performance by a supporting female actor for her role in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, bringing her total nomination count up to 33.

In the category, Streep was nominated alongside Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown), Abby Elliott (The Bear), Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets), J. Smith-Cameron (Succession) and Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso).

In Only Murders, Streep portrayed Loretta Durkin, an actress who starred in Oliver Putnam’s (Martin Short) musical and eventually became his love interest, as they worked together to find season 3 murderers.
Showrunner John Hoffman shared Streep’s casting story with The Hollywood Reporter following the most recent finale, and said he hoped the iconic actress will return for season 4.

The Oscar- and Emmy-winning actress has previously won Golden Globes for The Iron LadyThe French Lieutenant’s WomanAngels in AmericaAdaptationJulie & JuliaThe Devil Wears PradaSophie’s Choice and Kramer vs. Kramer.

Streep also received the DeMille honor for lifetime achievement in 2017. The award celebrates those who have made outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment. In her speech, she talked about immigration and took aim at Donald Trump.

“Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if you kick us all out, you’ll have nothing to watch except for football and mixed martial arts, which are not arts,” she said onstage at the time.
