Oscar: Towne, Robert–Consecutive Nominee but Not Winner

The accomplished screenwriter Robert Towne was nominated for Writing Oscars in three consecutive years, but had never won.

In 1973, Towne was nominated for Adapted Screenplay for The Last Detail.

In 1974, he got a nod for Original Screenplay for the noir Chinatown, directed by Polanski.

In 1975, Towne received another Original Screenplay nomination for Shampoo, directed by Warren Beatty.
