Oscar Speeches: Sutart, Gloria on her Supporting Actress Nomination for Titanic

Upon being nominated for her first and only Oscar (Best Supporting Actress) nomination for the 1997 Titanic, Gloria Stuart, one of the oldest nominees said: “I think everyone needs approval, and you know, the older you get, the less attractive you become, so you worry more about approval.”

Unfortunately, Kim Basinger also was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in Titanic.  In all likelihood, the two women slit the votes, but Basinger still emerged the winner, again proving that the Academy voters are not as sentimental as they are alleged to be.
