When Ginger Rogers won the Best Actress Oscar in 1940, for Kitty Foyle, directed by Sam Wood, she said in her acceptance speech: “This is the greatest moment of my life. I want to thank the one who has stood by me faithfully–my mother.”
As is well-known, Rogers’ mother, Lila, was instrumental in launching and managing her screen career.
