Oscar Speeches: Hearts and Minds, Oscar Winning Documentary by Peter Davis and Bert Schneider.
My Oscar Book:
Peter Davis said: “People have to make up their own minds how they are going to use the Oscar platform. Some people just thank their sweethearts and their agents, and some people say, ‘All right, I’ve go your attention here for a couple of seconds, and I’m gonna say something.’ I don’t criticize either way.”
In later years, the duo defended their speeches on Oscar night: “I was surprised that a singer (Sinatra) and comedian (Bob Hope) would bring themselves to condemn a telegram that eventually was an offer of friendship as a long war drew to a close.”
“I thought they were nuts,” he elaborated, when Hearts and Minds got rereleased in theaters.
