Oscar Show 1973: Eastwood Replaces Charlton Heston

The producer of the 1973 Oscar show pulled Clint Eastwood out of the audience at the last moment to fill in for designated host Charlton Heston, who had a flat tire on the freeway.

Eastwood showed a likable if flustered image, never seen in his pictures before.  However, as he stumbled over the silly Moses jokes on the cue cards (written specifically for Heston, the star of the biblical epic, The Ten Commandments), Eastwood ad-libbed, “Man, this is not my bag!”

The audience, of course, cheered.  But Eastwood did not attend another Oscar show for many years.
