Oscar: Guilds and the Best Picture Award–Apollo 13 Vs. Braveheart

The only film in Academy’s history ever to win all three guild prizes, the Producers, Actors, and Directors Guilds and lose the Best Picture Oscar was Apollo 13 in 1995.

The surprise winner was Mel Gibson’s violent historical epic, Braveheart.

But back then, there was a longer gap in the race as the Oscars were held in March.
