Oscar Politics: Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon–HIV-Infected Haitian Refugees

Oscar Politics: Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon

My Oscar Book

In the 1993 show, presenters Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon were criticized  for using the Oscar stage for speaking out for HIV-infected Haitian refugees, who were being held captive at Guantanamo U.S. Naval base in Cuba.

However, in 2004, when Tim Robbins won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Clint Eastwood’s drama, Mystic River, he steered clear of controversy, though Haiti was in a state of violent turmoil.

End Note:

Many critics consider Robbins’ work to be u worthy of Oscar gold, but benefiting from the overall clout of the film, which was nominated for Best Picture, Director, and earned deservedly Sean Penn’s first Best Actor Oscar.
