Oscar Movies: You Light Up My Life (1977)

The ambitious daughter (played by Didi Conn)  of a comedian (Joe Silver) wants to pursue her own showbiz career.

Meanwhile, she is caught in a romantic triangle, attracted to a tennis coach (Stephen Nathan) and a director (Michael Zaslow).

Sporadically amusing, the tale is overly familiar, borderline cliché.

In addition to writing the Oscar nominated song (see below), Joseph Brooks also produced, directeda, and wrote this mediocre genre item.

Debbie Boone’s recording of the title tune, “You Light Up My Life,” was a huge hit, going in popularity way beyond the movie.
