Denmark’s Oscar nominated film, Paw, directed by Astrid Henning-Jensen, centers on a boy whose father is Danish and his mother is Native American. He goes to live with his aunt in a small Danish village, but encountering bigotry, he runs away.
The winner of the 1959 Best Foreign Language Oscar was the French entry, Black Orpheus.
