MGM’s 1962 remake of the 1935 Oscar winner Mutiny on the Bounty was an ambitious, large-scaled production.

Unfortunately, it was cursed from the beginning with poor planning, bad luck, and clash of egos. Corporate indecision, artistic temperaments, unforeseen nature, caused the film to take twice as long as originally planned. In the process, the budge doubled from $8.5 to $18.5.
Nonetheless, contrary to popular notions, the movie was not a financial disaster (it grossed $13 million), and it was not a bad movie either.
