Oscar Movies: Music in My Heart (1940)–Starring Young Rita Hayworth

In this minor movie, directed by Joseph Santley, Tony Martin plays a singer from a European country (unnamed), who faces deportation–unless he can get work. Sure enough, he gets a job–and with Rita Hayworth no less.

This was the first musical of Hayworth, soon to become Columbia’s reigning star.
