Directed by Jean Negulesco in a lavish style, the romantic melodrama A Certain Smile was shot in CinemaScope.
The tale concerns a triangle of two young student lovers, Christne Carere and Bradford Dillman, and an older man (Italian Rossano Brazzi) who comes between them.
The screenplay by husband and wife team Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett is based on the novella by Francoise Saga, who also provided the literary source for the much better Preminger picture, “Bonjour Tristesse,” the following year.
