As of 2015, Mexico has not won the Best Foreign Language Oscar award, but eight Mexican films have been nominated in that category, including Alejandro Gonzales Innaritu’s 2011 “Biutiful.”
In 2014, there were high hopes that “Cantinflas,” by Sebastian del Amo, will receive a nomination due to its warm reception. The film did solid box office with $6 million in the U.S. and another $4.5 million in Mexico.
