Oscar Impact: Typecasting–Wiest, Diane

After winning her first Best Supporting Actress in 1986 for Woody Allen’s comedy, Hannah and Her Sister, Diane Wiest was typecast, playing a series of roles as a sensitive mother of troubled youth.

These parts included: The Lost Boys in 1987, Parenthood in 1988, for which she received a second Supporting Actress Oscar nod, and Edward Scissorhands in 1990.
