Oscar Actors: Steiger, Rod–In the Heat of the Night

Rod Steiger, who most people believed would win the Best Actor Oscar (at his first nomination) for the Holocaust drama, “The Pawnbroker” (1965) was bitterly offended to have lost the Oscar to someone like Lee Marvin, for the frivolous Western comedy, “Cat Ballou.”
Two years later, in 1967, Rod Steiger won the Best Actor Oscar for “In the Heat of the Night,” which co-starred Sidney Poitier and won Best Picture.
