Oscar: Olivier’s Honorary Oscar in 1978

In 1978, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) bestowed on British Oscar winner, Laurence Olivier (Hamlet, 1948), the Honorary Award, “for the full body of his work, for the unique achievements of his entire career and his lifetime of contribution to the art of film.”

Star Cary Grant introduced Olivier briefly and succinctly as a man who “represents the ultimate in acting.”
