Oscar: Black Writers Who Won the Award

In the entire history of the Oscars, only two African-American writers have won the Writing Award.

In 2013, John Ridley’s script for 12 Years a Slave won the Oscar Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Ridley became the second black to win the award after Geoffrey S. Fletcher, who won in 2009 for Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.
