Oscar Actors: Moorehead, Agnes

Born on December 6, 1900, Agnes Moorehead was one of the most accomplished actresses in American film, stage and television.  Her career spanned four decades, and she is best known for her role as Endora on the TV series Bewitched.

In film, she rarely played leading roles, and was quickly being typecast as a skillful and versatile character actresses.  One of Oscar’s greatest losers, Moorehead was nominated for four Academy Awards, all in the supporting league, and six Emmy Award nominations.

Though she could play many different types, she often portrayed haughty, arrogant characters. She won one Primetime Emmy Award and two Golden Globe awards.

She died on April 30, 1974.
