Oscar Actors: Mitchum, Robert

Fred Zinnemann's The Sundowners was nominated in 1960 in many categories, including acting nominations for Deborah Kerr and Glynis Johns, but not Robert Mitchum.

In his entire career, Mitchum earned only one supporting nomination, in the war film The Story of G.I. Joe. Could it be that Mitchum's kind of acting was taken for granted Or perhaps that he specialized in the downbeat genre of film noir, consistently overlooked by the Academy.
