In 1960, Knight competed with Shirley Jones in “Elmer Gantry” (who won), Glynis Johns in “The Sundowners,” Janet Leigh in “Psycho,” and Mary Ure in “Sons and Lovers.”
In 1962, the winner was child actress Patty Duke in “The Miracle Worker,” in a contest that included another child, Mary Badham in “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Angela Lansbury in “The Manchurian Candidate,” and Thelma Ritter in “Birdman of Alcatraz.”
