Oscar Actors: Sanders, George–Suicide

For his work in 1950’s All About Eve, playing a witty and cynical drama critic, George Sanders won the Oscar for best supporting actor.

In his later years, he suffered a stroke and displayed signs of dementia, which caused him to become depressed.

In 1972, he was found dead in a hotel near Barcelona alongside five empty bottles of barbiturates and a note that read: “Dear World, I am leaving because I am bored.”
