Oscar Actors: Avery, Margaret

In 1985, Margaret Avery was nominated for the Supporting Actress Oscar in Spielberg's screen adaptation of “The Color Purple,” one of the few films she had made.

Avery was nominated in that category alongside Oprah Winfrey, also for “The Color Purple,” Anjelica Huston (who won) in “Prizzi's Honor,” Amy Madigan in “Twice in a Lifetime,” and Meg Tilly in “Agnes of God.”
