All the Oscar pundits (yours truly included) were wrong in predicting that Bradley Cooper will receive his first Best Director nominations for A Star Is Born.

Was the fact that this version, starring Cooper and Lady Gaga, is not original; it’s the third remake of the 1937 film (the other versions were in 1954, with Judy Garland, and 1976, with Barbra Streisand.
Did the Academy think that Bradley only deserves a Best Actor nomination?
Even so, the highly acclaimed and commercially popular film received several major nominations, including Best Actress nod for Lady Gaga.
