The 68th Emmy nominations, announced July 14, put recent Oscar nominations to shame by honoring an incredibly diverse array of series and talent, many of them composed of black artists (in various categories).
The TV Academy nominated 21 non-white actors in16 acting categories, a dramatic contrast to the last two years of Oscar nominations, in which all 20 acting nominees were white.
However, an early look of this year’s Oscar race suggests that the Academy voters may be showing more diversity and inclusion, when nominations are announced January 24, 2017.
This will be the first in three years not branded with the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite.
The first half of 2016 produced several films about people of color that are already generating awards consideration. And several more will open in the fall and winter.
