October 11, 2016–The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences (AMPAS) disclosed the official entries of 85 countries for the prestigious and impactful Best Foreign-Language Film Oscar consideration.
That’s a record number for submissions, after 2014, in which 83 countries were represented.
After screenings for voters, the Academy will announce a short list of nine foreign-language films in late December. The five nominees will be named January 24, along with all the other Oscar nominations.
