Oscar 2011: Michel Hazanavicius

“The Artist” director Michel Hazanavicius, nominated for directing and original screenplay, admits that setting his sights on a Oscar gold is pretty audacious.

“You can dream of the Cesar, and you if you’re crazy, you can dream of an Oscar for foreign language movie,” said Hazanavicius, but “you never dare” to consider the major Academy Awards categories.

The recognition for “Artist” is particularly gratifying because he made the movie as an homage to silent films, and he put all his love for Hollywood into the movie.

“I sent a love letter to Hollywood, and Hollywood answered me,” he said.
