Oscar 2010: Japan’s Confessions (Kokuhaku)

Japan’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at next year’s Academy Awards will be “Kokuhaku” (“Confessions”) directed by Tetsuya Nakashima, and starring Takako Matsu.
Nakashima’s dark tale of murder and revenge in a junior high school has received high critical praise in Japan, and was the favorite for the nomination.
It has been seen by nearly 3 million audience members in Japan on its way to over 3.7 billion yen ($44 million) at the box-office since its release in early June.
The film, starring Matsu as the teacher bent on revenge, has also been the subject of a number of remake offers, including some by Hollywood studios.
The final list of nominees will be announced in January, the month before the Oscar ceremony in Los Angeles.
