Oscar 2009: Scret in Their Eyes Is Argentina's Oscar Entry

“We are extremely excited that this film is selected to compete with other great films from around the world,” stated producer Besuievsky.  “This is one of director Campanella’s best works to date.”

Fresh from critical acclaim and sold out audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival and the San Sebastian Film Festival, “The Secret in Their Eyes” is also making history in Argentina, as the number one box office hit film for the past five weeks.

The murder mystery thriller starring Ricardo Darrin has had audiences raving and discussing the film in the media and in cafes and restaurants throughout Argentina.

“I am very proud of my film, and the response it is getting from audiences around the world and in Argentina is tremendous,” said director Campanella.  “I am excited to represent Argentina in this year’s Oscar competition.”

Audience reaction and trade reviews on the film have been strong.  Daily Variety has hailed the film as “mesmerizing,” with Hollywood Reporter calling it “riveting and exciting,” and Screen International citing that the film “packs an emotional punch.”

Campanella was previously nominated for an Oscar in 2001 for his film “Son of the Bride.”  He works in both Argentina and the United States. In the US, he continues to be a favorite director amongst TV shows including “House, MD,”  “Law and Order: SVU,” and “30 Rock.”

“The Secret in Their Eyes" opens in Spain on September 25 and domestic US rights are still available, as well as other territories.  Traction Media and Latido Films represent the US sales and international territories, respectively.  The film is produced by Tornasol Films, Haddock Films and 100 Bares Producciones.
